About Freight and Regional Development

Freight and Regional Development is Transport for NSW’s dedicated strategic freight planning and policy division and works closely with industry and local, state and federal government agencies to deliver efficient freight movement on rail, road, air, sea and pipeline.

The freight logistics industry accounts for approximately 13.8 per cent or $58 billion of NSW’s economy. With the forecasted growth in population, housing and employment amidst network challenges such as congestion, availability of infrastructure and land-use planning, meeting the needs of NSW’s future freight task is critical.
